“INSIDE THE MATTRESS”

A performance collaboration with Melanie Valera (aka Tender Forever) for the 2009 “Crossing the Line Festival” in NYC. The exhibit we were apart of was curated by the Whitney Museum and the French Institute Alliance Francaise, and was centered around the work of French film pioneer Alice Guy Blanche. Melanie was given a film by Blanche to score and the performance used the film as a jumping off point. It involved live green screen, mutli-screen projections, animations by Duncan Frazier and Bonnie Scott, and a cell-phone motion-tracking audience participation segment programmed by Nick Lally.

“PART OF YOUR WORLD”

Few credit Walt Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” for the powerful statement it makes in busting open and addressing the struggles involved in trans-body identity issues. This video is a karaoke sing-along that attempts to try to both bring up the ideas and vernacular of trans-body identity, and to try to point out broader implications in the hopes of taking another baby-step towards the normalization of this dialogue. If nothing else it’s an excuse for me to sing a song from the “Little Mermaid.” My gender is mermaid.
